Day of the Dead
is a Mexican holiday in which people celebrate those who have died. It is also celebrated every year in San Francisco on November 2nd.

At the SomArts Cultural Center at 934 Brannan St (between 8th & 9th) there is an exhibit devoted to Day of the Dead every year in which many altars dedicated to the departed are displayed.

On 24th Street (near the Galeria de la Raza) a procession begins at around 7 pm. People dress as the dead, they make music and walk to Garfield Park.
Andrea & Lesley dress up like the dead for the procession.

In Garfield Park there are large altars on display.

Along Balmy Alley (between Garfield Park and 24th Street), one can see some of the best murals in the city.
